Re: New Kinky social networking site
Thu, January 15, 2009 - 5:15 PMI joined FetLife too.
I compare KinkySpace to MySpace in it's set up, feel, and navigation.
I compare www.fetlife.com to Facebook.

Re: New Kinky social networking site
Fri, January 23, 2009 - 3:41 AMI do find that FetLife is much easier to navigate, much more active (as there are a lot more people there), and easier on the eyes. I do tend to spend more time on FetLife.

Re: New Kinky social networking site
Mon, February 9, 2009 - 4:00 PMI have to disagree with you. Fetlife is clunky, hard to navigate and all black. KinkySpace has tons more features - customizable profiles, ability to edit posts (can't do that on fetlife), privacy options (fetlife has zero privacy options), more visually pleasing (unless you like all black), ability to embed pics in threads (can't do that on fetlife either).
Granted fetlife is more active right now, only because it's been around over a year - KinkySpace is only a few months old but already has over 6,000 people in it's short life.
Plus they don't have the anonymous "caretakers" that fetlife has - it's a really creepy thing where you don't know who's watching you. Fetlife has an almost cult following of the owner John Baku (in fact, I bet someone jumps in to defend this). I know a number of people who left the site because of fetlife's inaction on a pedo thread that was on the site for over a month. -

Re: New Kinky social networking site
Tue, February 10, 2009 - 11:05 AMBoth systems have mandatory and awkward gender and orientation questions. That's as far as I got when I tried last year. -
-
Re: New Kinky social networking site
Wed, February 11, 2009 - 1:21 AMFetLife currently has for Gender:
Female
Male
Trans - MTF
Trans - FTM
GenderFluid
GenderQueer
Intersexed
and for Orientation:
Straight
Heteroflexible
Bisexual
Gay
Lesbian
Queer
Pansexual
Fluctuating/Evolving
(People have asked for Homoflexible, but I don't know if it's going to be added or not.)
I do like a lot of the people and content on FetLife, but many of the defaults and ways things work drive me a bit bonkers. Oh well. -

Re: New Kinky social networking site
Fri, February 13, 2009 - 4:37 PMHow about "abstain"?
None of the orientations work for me. And I don't care to declare my gender either. The best choice available is to pick something random. Eg, for age on such sites, I usually pick the oldest value they'll allow me to assign. That way it's at least suggestive of bad info.

Re: New Kinky social networking site
Tue, February 10, 2009 - 11:07 AMps, the ability to edit posts is considered a misfeature by many. It's one of the prides of tribe and it's considered a major problem on livejournal where it is possible.
Heck, being able to delete a thread has been a questionable feature on tribe. -
-
Re: New Kinky social networking site
Tue, February 10, 2009 - 6:16 PMI agree that indefinite ability to edit posts is not a good thing - KinkySpace allows a 10 minute window to edit a post - which I think is good :) -

Re: New Kinky social networking site
Tue, February 10, 2009 - 9:09 PMboth sites have their positives and negatives. Fetlife is easier on the eyes and simpler in layout like Tribe. KinkySpace doesn't work well on all browsers and I still can't get the music feature to work for me. If KinkySpace had a way to customize the home page like you can with Tribe, I'd probably spend a lot more time there.

Re: New Kinky social networking site
Tue, February 10, 2009 - 9:09 PMInteresting. I haven't spent much time there. I guess we'll see how that works out.

Re: New Kinky social networking site
Tue, February 10, 2009 - 9:10 PMWhat is wrong with being able to edit posts? Only the author can do so, and what if they said something wrong and wanted to fix it? -

It can then make the thread make no sense, if people have already responded to it.

Re: New Kinky social networking site
Thu, February 12, 2009 - 2:45 PMsometimes, posts NEED to be deleted, especially when trolls invade and cause nothing but strife and harm and malignancy. I've had to delete a few posts/threads in my time because of that. I consider it removing cancer.
